LYNN PEARCE PHOTOGRAPHY
ABOUT LYNN PEARCE LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER
Without apology, landscape photography has been my primary focus, but more than that, it’s the way light moves across landscapes and oceans that has captivated me for over 40 years. Travel has been my greatest muse, shaping not only my perspective but also my evolving approach to photography.
Each new location offers a fresh way of seeing, and every return to a familiar place reveals a different story told by shifting tides, changing seasons, and the unpredictable dance of light.
There’s a certain thrill in revisiting those ‘champion’ locations, hoping to capture the same shot, only to find that nature has rewritten the scene. The sandbanks have vanished, the clouds have rearranged themselves, and the light falls in ways I never could have anticipated. Photography, much like travel, is a lesson in impermanence—a reminder that we are always chasing moments that cannot be replicated.
From 2006, I immersed myself in the world of silver gelatin photography, both in the field and in the darkroom. I feared the technical precision would strip away the magic, but instead, it opened another dimension of artistic discovery.
Then, in 2012, New York City changed everything again. Its towering skyline, so different from the expansive landscapes I was used to, demanded to be seen in black and white. The nostalgia of the city echoed the old Hollywood films I grew up watching, and for a time, my lens leaned into that monochrome world.
Yet, as much as I return to black and white, it’s the painterly softness of autochrome that calls to me now.
Each journey alters my gaze, each place leaves its imprint, and through travel, I continue to refine the way I see and capture the world. It is the personality of the ever-changing landscapes—unpredictable, dynamic, and endlessly expressive—that continues to inspire me.
